BI Norwegian Business School has announced they will ban all single-use plastic. President of BI Norwegian Business School, Inge Jan Henjesand expands on their recent decision.

“We must use our influence to make a positive impact, both on our own business practices and in collaboration with our internal and external partners. Cutting out disposable plastics is one of several measures we will make in the years to come to contribute to a more sustainable society”, says President of BI Norwegian Business School, Inge Jan Henjesand.

The decision includes products such as straws, disposable cups, plastic cups and other disposable products with plastic coating.

A clean and rich sea is the foundation for value creation and the harvesting of resources. Plastic that ends up in the sea and otherwise in nature is a threat to the environment, people and coastal communities. More than 20,000 tons of plastic end up in the ocean every day. In one year, that is (add source) about 8 million tonnes, four times the annual catch of fish and seafood from Norwegian boats. There are countless fish and seabirds who die because of this. If we do not act, by 2050 we will have more plastic than fish in our oceans.

“Disposable plastics contribute to polluting the natural environment, and we must do what we can to reduce our use. As an academic institution with social responsibility as part of the curriculum and sustainability as one of the pillars of BI’s new strategy for 2018-2022, we take all small and large measures seriously that contribute to a better society”, concludes Henjesand.
