BonApp is a mobile application which helps food providers in the UAE reduce their food waste by selling excess food they might have at a discounted price through the app.
BonApp currently works with 150 food providers who regularly sell their excess food through the app to users looking for high-quality discounted food. The app provides real-time information to their users on the available food, and the discount ranges from 30 to 50%. The transactions go through the app and the meals can be enjoyed for either dine-in or take-away. So far, BonApp has been operating in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and has helped to save 10,000 meals or three tonnes of food from ending up in landfills. Since the launch in February 2018, the app received more than 1,000 downloads in the first year.
The three Scandinavians Malin, Erika and Alice founded BonApp after having lived in the UAE for years and seen first hand the high levels of food waste in the UAE.
Why you should care
