O2E Recycling Technologies has developed a flexible recycling and waste-to-energy process, which can turn waste streams from a variety of sources into fuels, energy, fertilisers, and food.

Using various technologies including a patented catalytic cold conversion process, a rapid gasifier system, organic vertical growing systems and greenhouse technologies, O2E converts mixed waste streams into energy, fuel, and food. The process contains a series of steps that firstly sorts the waste, before making use of each of the individual waste streams. Bio waste for example is separated into wood and other biological products. The wood is then chipped and used as fuel for the gasification process, and the rest is composted to produce fertiliser, which is then in turn used in nearby greenhouses for food production.

With either a single mixed waste stream or pre-sorted streams, the outputs from the process can be chemical derivatives (synthetic fuels, Syngas), electricity and heat, composts, fertilisers, and fresh produce.

Why you should care

O2E Recycling Technologies’ recycling and waste-to-energy innovation can process waste without the need for incineration – thus avoiding greenhouse gas emissions from the combustion of waste materials. In addition, the company’s waste conversion units are modular and scalable and are a contribution to local energy and food security.

How the Global Goals are addressed

Affordable and clean energy

O2E Technologies produce fuels from waste products that would otherwise contribute to landfill or create greenhouse gas emissions through incineration.

Responsible consumption and production

It is estimated that the UK will run out of landfill space by 2018. By transforming waste products into useful feedstocks, demand for new raw materials in production can be decreased and energy and food security can be improved.
